Here is the shifter mounted on my Eagle XX1 derailleur.
Pretty simple install, but a bit nerve wracking to install the adapter into the derailleur - super tight & I could not actually thread it all the way in. I have locked the M5 adapter to the threaded insert with the locknut & it all seems pretty rigid. First 20km of trails completed without issue.
No need to thread it all the way in. You could try backing it out again, putting some grease on it, and try again. We will try and adjust this for the next batch so its not quite so tight.
My mistake (I broke the top - see my video - while threading it in) was thinking it should thread all the way to being flush. If I had stopped when it got hard then it would have been fine. For the end user, there has got to be a better design.
Yes, we are trying to find a better way to do this. Its not an easy problem to solve.
