Understanding the Buttons on Your NXS Shifter

The NXS motor unit has two buttons:

  • Reset Button (Red) – hardware-level reset

  • Function Button – control, diagnostics, and pairing

These buttons allow you to perform resets, homing, pairing, troubleshooting, and power management.

:red_circle: Reset Button (Red) – Hardware Reset

The red reset button performs a true hardware reset.
It reboots the internal computer and also resets the battery protection circuit if the battery becomes overloaded.

What it does

  • Restarts the shifter’s microcontroller

  • Resets the internal battery if it has gone into protection mode

  • Can recover the unit from lock-ups or overload conditions

Important Note

If the battery has entered overload protection, the reset button may not fully recover it until you:

:right_arrow: Plug the shifter into a USB charger
This wakes up the battery protection circuitry and restores normal operation.

:white_circle: Function Button — Your Main Control Interface

The function button looks intimidating, but it’s actually simple once you know the timing.
Each press length performs a different action.

Here are the behaviors:

:one: Short Press — Status Check

  • Shows the 6-blink diagnostic sequence on the Function LED

  • Useful for troubleshooting and verifying system condition

:two: 3-Second Press — Homing

Holding the button for 3 seconds triggers the Homing procedure.

This recalibrates the derailleur to its reference position.
Use this any time:

  • Blink 1 reports “Not Homed”

  • You change the derailleur or mechanical setup

  • The system behaves inconsistently

:three: 6-Second Press — Power Down Mode

Holding for 6 seconds will put the shifter into low-power sleep mode.

To wake:

:right_arrow: Hold the function button for 3 seconds
The shifter will power back on and resume normal operation.

This is ideal for:

  • Long-term storage

  • Shipping

  • Flying

  • Preventing accidental operation during maintenance

:four: 10-Second Press — Factory Reset + Auto Pairing

Holding the button for 10 seconds performs a full factory reset:

What happens:

  1. Device resets to factory defaults

  2. All shift settings are erased

  3. Remote pairing is cleared

  4. A full Homing is performed

  5. Enters Auto Pairing Mode for 1 minute

This mode is powerful but should be used very carefully.

Warning

:right_arrow: You will lose all shift settings and the connection to the remote.
You must re-pair the remote afterward.

Use this only if:

  • The system cannot pair normally

  • The remote was replaced

  • You want to return to a clean, fresh configuration
