Skipping A Gear and Not Going to the Last Cog Problem After Install

I completed the install of the H/W on a Trek GT. Install went smoothly but I am having a couple shifting gear problems.

  1. When going from the 1st (smallest cog) to 2nd it skips over 2nd and goes to the 3rd cog every time.
  2. I have 9 cogs but it will not go to the last (largest cog), stops at the 8th cog.

I have tried;

  • Multiple resets and re-pairings
  • Clearing the cache for the App and reconfiguring it
  • Using the manual setup in the App multiple times and varying the numbers (not sure what they actually represent but after doing resets sometimes they are in the 10’s initially and sometimes they are in the 50 range).
    In the manual setup mode of the App I am moving it .1mm at a time, this helps to center the chain on the cog but does not stop it skipping the 2nd cog and I can’t get it onto the 9th cog.

I have tried finding help on the site but haven’t found anything on this.

Please let me know if you have some suggestions on how to get it calibrated and working correctly.

Also, with my older Trek it comes off the derailleur horizontally so I am definitely interested in buying one when you have the frame mount ready! I don’t think that it will work well if I crash with it where it is.

When you say you reset it, was it by holding the silver button? If so try resetting by holding the red button for 10 seconds and then doing a re-pair and a manual setup. The fact that you can reset the the software with the silver button is clear in the documentation but the part about resetting the hardware by holding the RED button 10 seconds is not very clear.

I had to do this more than once but it finally fixed the unusual shifting problems I was having. Again it took a few red button resets before it seemed to save the number of gears from the manual setup and clear up the shifting issues.
